Dear Parents and Students,

We are into a new semester and a new season of art.  Currently, 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade students are working on the annual Knights of Columbus Poster Contest.  The theme is drug and alcohol awareness.  The students had to create a thumbnail sketch first and then they will transfer their ideas onto the official paper.  Good luck to all of our students!

February is Black History month and also a great time for introducing the well-known African American artist, Romare Beardon.  He is known for being a master at collage art.  All of the students will have an opportunity to create a composition in the collage form.  The art room can always use magazines to help with this assignment.

The season of Easter is also fast approaching so we will be focusing some projects on this great holiday.  The students will be making easter eggs using the medium of paper mache'.  This will be a messy project so art shirts will definitely be in order.  I will remind the students before we begin this project.

The art room always needs foam egg cartons, paper towels and baby wipes.  We can also use for future projects:  shoe boxes and metal coffee cans.

A special thank you to Mrs. Coote and Mrs. Harden who donate their time and hands to helping in the art room. We appreciate  all you do.

Sincerely,

Betty Echlin

Art teacher
