Dear Parents,
The children have decorated our classroom with beautiful pictures of tulips, my favorite flower. Next week there will be several tests for the children to prepare for.
I am sending home the Unit 33 spelling list today. The children will have their practice test over these words next Wednesday, with those children not getting perfect scores taking their test on Friday, May 24.
Next week the children will have the vocabulary test over the words from “written-Martha” on Thursday, May 23. Please review these words with your children until they know and understand them.
Today, the children took the chapter test in math over multiplication. Next week they will be taking the Fourth Quarter Test which will assess their understanding of measurement, addition and subtraction of 3-digit numbers using regrouping, and multiplication. Once they have finished this test, they will be taking an End-of-the-Book math test.
I am sending home the Social Studies Study Guide with the children today listing the facts the children have been learning in class about our state. Please have them review their Michigan fact sheet until they know the information and are ready for the test, which I will give on May 30.
Today the children took the science test that dealt with things seen in our nighttime sky. Next week we will start our last science module that deals with the different features of our planet Earth-- our land, water and air.
Mrs. Murphy helped the children to plant some pumpkin seeds last week. We already have some “sprouters”, which we will be sending home as soon as they are big enough to travel. The children are excited to see if they can grow some pumpkins for Halloween.
The May Crowning service on Tuesday was beautiful. Our representatives, Lauryn Lucas and Caelen Meuhlen, and our readers, Alyssa Kelley and Teddy Robinson, did a wonderful job.
On Wednesday next week, the children will be making rosaries with the St. Mary Rosary makers. This is always a fun activity for the month of May, and a wonderful way to honor Mary.
The May Share Day today was a fun way for the children to show some of the mementoes they received for their First Communion. Thank you for being so helpful with our monthly Share Days by sending in items for your child to show and tell us about.
Next Friday, May 24, we will be going to the Longway Planetarium. Those parents who are driving, please come to my classroom at 11:40 PM to get the children you will be driving. We will be returning by 3:00 PM. Those children who do not have parents driving and are not eight years old yet, must bring in a booster seat to use.
I am sending home the last Scholastic Book orders of this school year. If your child wishes to place and order, please return it to school by next Friday, May 24. I want to insure the orders are delivered before our last day of school. God Bless You.
