Dear Parents,
This has been a fun week as the children celebrated Valentine’s Day on Tuesday and 100th day of school on Wednesday, and enjoyed going to the Sloan Museum to see the dinosaur exhibit today. The children will not have school tomorrow, Friday, February 17, and Monday, February 20, as we relax during our Winter Break and celebrate President’s Day. Next week we have some important assignments for the children to prepare for.
I am sending home the Unit 22 spelling list with the children today. The practice test over these words will be next Thursday, with those children not getting perfect scores, taking the test on Friday, February 24.
The children will have a vocabulary test over the words from “television-knives” on Wednesday, February 22. Please have them review these words until they know and understand them.
Today in math the children took a test over the regrouping process in subtraction, (borrowing). Next week we will begin a short geometry unit that will focus on plane shapes and solid figures. I will continue to give the children practice over addition and subtraction problems using regrouping to help improve their mathematical skills.
In religion, I will be testing the children over the “Morning Offering” prayer next week. Please have your child practice reciting this prayer that we say each school morning: “God, our Father, I offer You today, all that I think and do and say. I offer it with what was done, on Earth, by Jesus Christ, Your Son. Amen”
Next week we have two important assignments due.
If your child has not handed in their Black History report about a famous African American yet, this assignment is due Wednesday, February 22. This assignment is worth a grade equivalent to a test grade, so it is very important to have a report handed in on time.
This week the children have been working on Dental Health activities. They were given a toothbrushing chart for you to mark when they brush their teeth for one week. These charts are due back next Wednesday, February 22. Prizes will be given out to those children who return their charts. I’d like to thank Mrs. Murphy for helping with this unit and sponsoring a poster contest for the children.
In science, the children took a test this week over magnets. Next week they will begin a new module which deals with simple machines and how they make work easier.
The children should be working on their February reading goal for the Book-It program. They were asked to read five books this month. The Book-It sheets are due by February 29.
Next Friday, February 24, the children have earned a HAT DAY from collecting boxtops. They may bring in a hat to wear in school that day.
I hope you enjoy the Winter Break! God Bless You.
