3,2,1.....Blast Off
Welcome Back!!
I hope that everyone had a nice and restful break. It was a very nice time to spend with friends and family. I am so happy that we all have had this time to rest and recharge so that we can come back and finish strong. I hope you have all had a Happy Easter. Praise to Our Risen Lord.
Practice: With only a couple of months left of school we are going to be working on and perfecting a lot of our skills. This will mean that we will be writing more and learning more concepts. This also will mean that we will be working as we have all year on retention. There is so much to get accomplished so please make sure your working at home on handwriting, reading and writing especially. I know your all working so hard already, I just know that second grade brings a lot of change so I am really trying to get them ready.
Prayer of the Month: Our Lady of Guadalupe:
O our Lady of Guadalupe, mystical rose, make intercession for Holy Church, protect the Sovereign Pontiff, help all those who invoke thee in their necessities, and since thou art the ever Virgin Mary, and Mother of the one true God, obtain for us from thy most holy Son the grace of keeping our faith, sweet hope in the midst of the bitterness of life, burning charity and the precious gift of final perseverance.
Rocketing First Grade Skills:
Vocabulary Words: any, Dr., busy, care, eight, took
Dolch Words: Primer page rows 1,2,3
Spelling Words: cow, how, now, down, out, round, nice, face, does, once
If your child gets all 10 words correct on Thursdays pretest then they don’t have to take it on Friday!
Important reminders and dates:
*Please remember that your child’s library book has to be turned in every Tuesday.
*We will still be having our spelling test this week on Friday and our pretest on Thursday.
*It is still chilly out so please make sure your child is sent in with warmer gear to head outside in.
*I will not be testing the students on this months school prayer.
*The Kindergarten Round-up and Preschool Open House are on Wednesday the 11th from 4-6 p.m all are welcome.
*Our next family movie night is going to be on Friday the 20th at 7 p.m.
Religion: We will be moving on to talking and reviewing Holy week since it was so crazy that we did not get a chance to really get into the importance of what Easter is all about.
Math: This week we will be starting chapter 16 and this will have us working with money. Money can be harder for students to get because it is not something they handle often. I have many games and manipulatives for them to work with in class. Money is a fun chapter because it again gives them something else to work with. I think that if you want to at home have them work with change you have. Make sure to review the values of each coin and even have them tell you how many pennies, dimes or nickles make up a certain amount of money.
