Pre-K Through 8th Grade

PK4: Miss Abby

Welcome to My Page

Abby KovelHello, my name is Abigail Kovel and I am the new Age 4 Pre-K Associate Teacher! Although this is my first year at St. Mary's as an employee, I have had strong ties to St. Mary's for as long as I can remember.  I started at St. Mary's as a student in 1997 in the same preschool room I will now be working in. At that same time, my dad was teaching at St. Mary's until he left to teach history at Powers Catholic High School in 1999. In 2001, my mom started teaching at St. Mary's and has continued here as a wonderful 4th grade teacher. I am more than excited to work with her as well as the rest of the outstanding staff here at St. Mary's.

After attending St. Mary's, I started high school at Powers and graduated in 2012. I went on to continue my education at Central Michigan University and recently graduated in May of 2016 with a Bachelor's of Arts degree in Family Studies and a minor in Youth Studies while obtaining cum laude honors. As I am working in the classroom, I will also be attending Oakland University to receive my Masters of Arts degree in Community Health and School Counseling with a strong emphasis on early childhood.

My family and I are huge football fans and on Saturdays I like to cheer on my Chippewas then on Sundays I root for the Pittsburgh Steelers! I enjoy spending time with my family and am a huge reader and movie buff. I also love "do it yourself" crafts on Pinterest.

I truly love the St. Mary's environment and cannot wait to use my education and skills in the classroom. I have a passion for working with children and also love working with diverse groups of families. In the classroom, I believe each child is different and each of them needs the attention and caring specific to their own needs. I have a passion for Catholic Schools as well as the Catholic faith. I believe St. Mary's is a unique and loving experience for the students and I am so excited to be a part of the staff. I cannot wait to start working with your children in a safe, educational, and loving classroom!
