Pre-K Through 8th Grade

Mrs. Kovel

Welcome to My Page

Hello, my name is Michelle Kovel and I am the 4th grade and middle school social studies teacher here at St. Mary’s Mt. Morris. I have been teaching here for 14 years.

I received my B.B.A. in marketing from the University of Michigan-Flint in 1988 and after working in the business field, I felt a calling to return to University of Michigan-Flint and work on my elementary teaching certificate. I completed my elementary teaching certificate in 2001 with a major in Social Studies and a minor in Language Arts. I continued my education at Saginaw Valley State University completing a Masters in Reading in 2008. I have continued my education through further college courses and professional development.

I come from a large Catholic school background having attended Holy Family and graduating from Powers Catholic High School, with my husband, in 1982. My husband is a past St. Mary’s teacher and has been teaching history at Powers Catholic since 1999. I am proud to say that both of our extended families have all attended and graduated from Catholic schools. My son and daughter both attended St. Mary’s from preschool through 8th grade and both are graduates of Powers Catholic High School. They are currently attending college and are both pursuing a degree in the educational field.

As you can see from our family picture, we are HUGE Pittsburgh Steeler fans and enjoy traveling to Pittsburgh to attend games. My family enjoys spending time together and traveling to different areas that are full of history. I enjoy spending time outdoors enjoying nature. You may also see me running in local races throughout the year!

I value my teaching at St. Mary’s and believe that every child that attends our school has the opportunity to not only learn the fundamentals of education but to learn it through a faith-filled environment. Being able to talk about our faith on a daily basis is what makes teaching and learning in a Catholic school so unique. I believe that every child should have the opportunity to reach their highest academic potential and I strive to make my classroom a safe and trusting environment.
